Peppermint Bark Tiles

Dark and white chocolate with crushed candy canes, cut into tile-shaped pieces. Wrap them up as hostess gifts.

Squares of peppermint bark topped with crushed candy canes on a white cake stand on a pink tablecloth, with evergreen, ornaments and a rack of mahjong tiles

It’s mahjong night, ladies, so let’s make peppermint bark and cut it into little tiles. Dark chocolate, a peppermint white chocolate layer and crushed candy canes on top.

You’ll need

Makes about 24 tiles. About 20 minutes, plus 1 hour to set.

  • 12 oz semisweet chocolate
  • 12 oz white chocolate
  • ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 6 candy canes, crushed

Make it

  1. Illustration: melted dark chocolate pouring into a parchment-lined metal pan

Line a 9×13 pan with parchment. Melt the semisweet chocolate in 30-second bursts, spread it in the pan and chill 20 minutes.

  2. Illustration: melted white chocolate pouring over the set dark chocolate layer in a parchment-lined pan

Melt the white chocolate, stir in the peppermint and spread it over the dark layer.

  3. Illustration: crushed candy canes being sprinkled from a small bowl over white chocolate in a pan

Sprinkle the crushed candy canes on top and press them in gently.

  4. Illustration: a knife cutting peppermint bark into rectangles the size of mahjong tiles

Chill until firm, about 30 minutes, then cut into rectangles the size of mahjong tiles.

Lady M’s tips

  • Let the bark sit out 5 minutes before cutting so the layers don’t crack apart.
  • Use chocolate bars, not chips, for the smoothest melt.
  • Keep it in a tin in the fridge.

On my table

Stack the tiles in a little wall on a cake stand, or bag them with a ribbon for each player.

That’s it, and you’re ready for game night. Bird Bam Cheers! ...and happy mahj-ing!
