Cinnamon Stick Candle Wraps

Plain jar candles dressed up with cinnamon sticks and twine. About 10 minutes each, for the host or for every girl at Friendsgiving.

A jar candle wrapped in cinnamon sticks and tied with twine, a sprig of greenery and a kraft tag, on a pink cloth with mahjong tiles and dried orange slices

It’s mahjong night, ladies, so let’s make cinnamon stick candles, the sweetest little Friendsgiving gift. Make one for the host, or one for all the girls.

You’ll need

Makes one. About 10 minutes.

  • 1 glass jar candle, about 3 inches wide
  • About 20 cinnamon sticks, a little shorter than the jar
  • A hot glue gun
  • Jute twine or ribbon
  • A sprig of dried greenery
  • A gift tag

Make it

  1. Illustration: a hand with a glue gun gluing a cinnamon stick to a glass jar candle

Glue the cinnamon sticks around the outside of the jar, side by side, keeping them below the rim.

  2. Illustration: hands wrapping jute twine around a jar candle covered in cinnamon sticks

Tie twine or ribbon around the middle, twice, with a bow.

  3. Illustration: a finished cinnamon stick candle with a twine bow, a sprig of greenery and a kraft tag

    Tuck in the greenery.

  4. Illustration: a row of cinnamon stick candles with name tags

Add a tag with her name.

Lady M’s tips

  • Use a candle in a glass jar, where the flame sits deep inside the glass, or a flameless LED pillar.
  • Don’t wrap cinnamon around a bare wax candle, because the sticks can catch fire. Keep the sticks below the rim, and never leave a lit candle alone.
  • Hot glue can soften on warm glass, so a flameless candle is the safest choice if you plan to burn it for a long time.

On my table

Set one at each seat with a name tag, or hand the host hers at the door. It’s a little thank-you from the group.

That’s it, and you’re ready for game night. Bird Bam Cheers! ...and happy mahj-ing!
